The industrial-port complex of Bordeaux :
892 million euros of wealth generated, 8,620 jobs in 232 companies:
This is the weight of industrial port activities in Gironde, according to the latest study from a partnership between Insee and the Bordeaux Port Authority.
The analysis (based on figures to the end of 2022) shows that 26 communes in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region are home to at least one establishment linked to the activity of the Bordeaux industrial port complex (3/5 of jobs in Bassens).

7 TERMINALS
ON EUROPE'S LARGEST ESTUARY
AT THE HEART OF THE ATLANTIC SEABOARD.
- BLAYE
DEDICATED TO CEREALS AND BULK LIQUIDS
With an annual traffic volume of almost 300,000 tonnes, the Blaye site is dedicated to receiving bulk liquids, as well as cereal exports.
- AMBÈS
THE LARGEST PETROCHEMICAL CLUSTER IN THE SOUTH-WEST REGION
At the confluence of the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, the Ambès terminal is mainly equipped for the transit and storage of hydrocarbons and chemicals. Nearly 4 million tonnes (half of the port's traffic) pass through the terminal's facilities every year (gasoline, gas oils, domestic fuels, fuel oils, crude oils, etc.), making Ambès the most important hydrocarbon hub in the southwest of France.
- PAREMPUYRE
A NEW TERMINAL DEDICATED TO HEAVY PARCELS AND AGGREGATES
Close to the center of Bordeaux, the terminal boasts a high-capacity, multi-purpose wharf for unloading construction materials (aggregates), in the heart of a major consumer zone. The Parempuyre site can also receive or evacuate large parts, in line with the logistical needs of regional companies, and in particular of the Blanquefort Ecoparc. The site boasts a 6-hectare platform that has been pre-developed for logistics and industrial sites.
- BASSENS
MULTI-BULK, CEREALS, CONTAINERS, FOREST PRODUCTS, HEAVY PARCELS
Located on the right bank of the river, the Bassens terminal handles most of the traffic handled and is a major logistics hub around a vast industrial port zone. Spread over more than 3 km of quays, the site's activities are varied: recycling, cereals, oilseeds, industrial bulk, forestry products, heavy packages, etc. Companies based in Bassens invest every year in this major development hub, which centralizes more than a third of the port's traffic (over 3.2 million tonnes per year). Bassens also boasts a port rail network.
- BORDEAUX
A DOWNTOWN STOPOVER FOR CRUISE SHIPS
The "Port de la Lune" terminal in central Bordeaux is now dedicated to cruise calls.
Bordeaux is one of the few European ports of call that allows cruise ships up to 255 m in length to dock in the historic city center, in the heart of UNESCO's World Heritage Site. Two other complementary sites welcome cruise ships: Bassens and Le Verdon.
- LE VERDON
THE OUTER HARBOR FOR CONTAINER TRAFFIC AND CRUISE CALLS
The Le Verdon site, a true deep-water outer harbor (12.5-meter draught), boasts a vast amount of quayside land and a 12,000 m² hangar. It can handle industrial bulk logistics (aggregates, etc.), heavy parcel logistics and larger cruise ships. The site offers 3 berths, 2 container gantries and a ro-ro ramp. A rail link connects the port terminal directly to the Bordeaux metropolitan area. With a 59-hectare free zone, the Le Verdon site also benefits from simplified customs procedures and strategic tax advantages.
- PAUILLAC
SERVING THE OIL AND GAS BUSINESS
This terminal on the left bank has several facilities dedicated to oil traffic, and is the subject of a cruise development project: Pauillac "phase 1". Ahead of the creation of a new terminal, which will have to be the subject of a concerted decision co-financed by the port and local authorities, the early departure of Airbus has freed up berth 700 at Pauillac, providing a real opportunity to start welcoming test calls in the short term, with an investment to reinforce existing infrastructures (cruise ships up to 306 meters).
