Awarding medals

In the presence of Jean-Philippe Quitot, Directeur interrégional de la mer Sud-Atlantique, Hélène Chancel-Lesueur, Directrice adjointe de la DDTM, et déléguée à la mer et au littoral de la Gironde, Philippe Dorthe and Jean-Frédéric Laurent, respectively Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Managing Director of the GPMB, five Bordeaux Port Authority sailors were decorated this morning, for the rescue of 2 yachtsmen in June 2022.

Gros Antonin, Adrien POITOU, Yann LASSAUX, Jérémy MONGUILLOT and Xavier GRELIER were part of the crew of the operating suction dredger Anita Conti, in charge of maintaining the navigation channel, which went to the scene and was able to assist the yachtsmen whose boat was sinking due to water ingress. The victims were rescued unharmed on board, thanks to the seamless coordination of maritime and port services.

Highlighting the crew's decisive speed and professionalism, the officials decorated the sailors, who received a bronze rescue medal for "acts of courage and devotion", as well as a diploma of honor and a letter of thanks signed by the Secretary of State to the Prime Minister in charge of the Sea, Hervé Berville.
The rescued yachtsman, who was also present, thanked the crew and shared a moment of conviviality with the sailors.

The DIRM and DDTM take this opportunity to reiterate this message, for rescue at sea: "Are you on a boat at sea and faced with danger? Channel 16 of your VHF (Very High Frequency) or the number 196 on your cell phone will put you in touch with the Centre Régional Opérationnel de Surveillance et de Sauvetage en mer (CROSS). 196 is the only telephone number for contacting the CROSS (Centre Régional Opérationnel de Surveillance et de Sauvetage en Mer) in an emergency. It does not replace VHF channel 16, which remains the priority for alerting CROSS at sea.

It is strongly recommended to have a VHF on board.
